In present days we see a number of Urdu quarterlies being published by different literary figures and each and every quarterly needs a thorough study for writing on them and to ap preciatethe efforts of the editors.
However as a noticed a very recent quarterly titled ‘Ijmaal’ it convinced me to write something on it. I must say it has appeared with more interesting discourses on diction, short stories and fresh poetry and other forms of literature.
A very interesting debate has been initiated by its editor Faheem Islam Ansari who argued the plea of Satyapal Anand on the poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz was unjustified that a portion of poetry (especially‘ghazals’) had negative impact and this portion project a view of rejection or contradiction. Ansari has expressed his surprise that Satyapal Anand had never dared to highlight such things in the life of Faiz Ahmed Faiz and instead kept up commending him for his great poetry and now has started tendering illogical arguments.

Faheem has also criticsed another scholar and educationist Moinuddin Aqeel who expressed his concerned over handing over the books of famous playwright Fatima Surayya Bajia to Ghalib Library. Aqeel had passed the cited remark at a function held by the Consulate-General of Japan on the occasion of launch of adoption of Japanese dramas by Fatima Surayya Bajia. The book of Bajia was compiled by noted writer and columnist Khurram Sohail. Sohail has written preface of the same book.
Moinuddin Aqeel had expressed his concern over the handing over books to Ghalib Library adding that ironically Bajia herself had donated all her books (of her library) to Ghalib Library which could be finished and eaten by termites in near future.
Later Faheem Islam Ansari himself paid a visit to Ghalib Library and expressed the concern of to the in-charge (secretary) of the library Dr Rauf Parekh. Dr Rauf Parek showed him the books donated by Bajia placed at a safe and well-protected showcase.
Faheem in his editorial note has raised a question about the purpose of expressing concern by Moinuddin Aqeel, while adding whether Aqeel desired to dispose of these book to some ‘Kabarria’instead of donating the same to Ghalib Library.
The quarterly is published by Ham Log Publications, Karachi and Faheem stated that the quarterly aimed at representative the collective psyche of progressive and enlightened writers and writings. Arif Abbasi and Zafar Rabab are the consultants to the quarterly and its editor Faheem Islam Ansari

Prof Shehnaz Parveen has presented a good analytical study on a short story titled ‘Rabbar ki geind’(a rubber made ball) by Nasim Anjum, whereas Prof Jameel Hayat has presented a detailed study on an Urdu novel titled ‘Meer wah ki raatein’ by Rafaqat Hayat. Prof Jameel Hayat has termed the fiction as a fresh air feeling and has commended the novelist for his observation and good depiction of characters.
Besides, famous late writers including Intizar Hussain, Aziz Hamid Madani, Joginder Pal, Balraj Manra have also been remembered as famous writers have written on their works.
